Startup talk: Why having the right team matters

Entrepreneurs sometimes have the tendency to do all the work on their own. They know their business best, and think they have the skills to fulfill each job there is in the enterprise. Pressure will build up, and soon, an entrepreneur would have to turn to a team to ease the pressure.

Having the need to hire employees is an affirmative sign that a startup is taking off. Hiring can be nerve-wracking for an entrepreneur, especially when they know a bad hire can damage a business. The consequence of a having a bad hire is felt even more by startups. An entrepreneur must follow a sensible, well-ordered approach to hiring, in order to lessen the fear of hiring the wrong person for the job.

Instead of trying to get over the hiring process as quickly as possible, take time to get to know the candidates better, learn about their experiences, and what they can actually do for the company. An entrepreneur must be able to discern whether a candidate’s personality and skillset fit the job. It’s best to hire based more on one’s attitude than their aptitude, as skills can be acquired. The right employees have the capacity to deliver projects on time with excellence, and are great team players.

For startups, team matters. The ability of a startup to keep up with the industry’s innovations depends on maintaining a great team composed of individuals with expertise in different skills. Entrepreneurs alone can’t make a company great; the right teams make it happen.
