But before that, we’d like to pay tribute to our favorite superhero movies that take place in neither the DC nor Marvel universes.
Quite possibly our favorite superhero movie of all-time, The Crow is a dark adaptation of an even darker graphic novel by James O’Barr. It is both a revenge and love story filled with anger, sadness, and hope. The film is best remembered for being Brandon Lee’s final film, a film in which he perished while filming.

While we believe the second installment is just as good, the first Blade movie for us stands taller in the sense that it was the first R-rated superhero movie that featured non-stop action and thrilling fight choreography. Wesley Snipes does superbly as the titular vampire hunter who can also walk in daylight.
Here’s another case of the second film being just as good. Hellboy is a fun romp through the dark, demon-filled corners of the world. Guillermo del Toro’s take on the graphic novel is visually spectacular. We can only hope that next year’s grittier reboot will be just as entertaining.
