For anglers, fishing during this time presents some unusual and interesting challenges and some satisfying rewards. On that note, here are some expert tips for fishing in cold waters. Steve Sorensen . Use heavier flies. In colder waters, fish don’t move as much to conserve energy. This means they’re swimming in deeper parts. Using heavier flies would allow the bait to reach depths where most fishes dwell. Experienced anglers also recommend using a high-stick technique. Fish after lunch.
